Some Days It’s Good to Be a Bear – by Sebastian

I just don’t know if life gets any better than this. I’m still giddy when I think back to just the other day and how things can go from being ordinary to extraordinary in just the blink of an eye.

Let me start at the beginning. I was, as usual, stowed safely away from harm down in my handbag. I know she likes to think it’s hers but I live here. I was entertaining myself trying to get a mint out of the roll and giggling at her driver’s license photo when I heard someone say “Hold this and this, please. I think Sebastian would like to meet her.”

Then I was being jostled around and finally I was pulled from my warm and cozy niche. Let me tell you the lights were so bright I had to squint.

Then I saw her. No, not you-know-who, but her! Miss North Carolina! I thought I was dreaming. I had to clean my glasses to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. She looked just like a princess.

She made me feel like royalty too. There I was in the palm of her hand! It was absolutely heavenly. And she said such nice things about me – how cute I was and sweet and all that. (All true but you know, when someone with such loveliness says it, it carries more weight.)

She let me wear a teeny tiny crown very much like hers

and then she decided I might like sitting in her scepter. She was so right.

I was delighted to have such an honor. I have to believe that not many of her fans have sat there before.

Isn’t she lovely?

I know that Miss North Carolina or Arlie, as I like to call her, is not a real princess but she’s definitely royalty in my book. So sweet and kind. Best of luck in the Miss America pageant! From your number one teddy bear fan,

sebastian

  1. Sebastian, you meet so many celebrities, I think YOU must be famous. You looked right at home in that sceptre. Miss North Caroliner looks glowing. did you get a kiss from her? I don't think I would wash my face even if I had been eating honey.

    1. Hi Wilbur,

Ha ha! Thank you for that but I just get lucky sometimes - you know, being in the right place at the right time. I didn't get a kiss and that's okay because lipstick and I don't get along well, but she did say some wonderful things and it made my heart go pitty pat!

      hugs,
      Sebastian

  2. Hi Sebastian,

My bearness, what an honor. You look like a Princess sitting in that scepter - exactly where you belong.

I wonder if "she" (you know the funny face on that driver's license) would buy one for you so you can use it as your throne. (o:

    1. Hi Prudence,

The scepter was pretty neat and it was a great idea of hers to allow me to sit there. She was very very sweet - no wonder she was chosen to represent our home state!

I'll have to give your idea some thought - about the throne. It seems a bit overwhelming to sit in one all day.

      hugs,
      Sebastian

  3. Haha! Sebastian! You fit perfectly into the Princess's sceptor! Perhaps you are someone's royal family jewels...

    ... oh wait...
on second thought, let's hope that isn't the case.
No one wants to be the family jewels.

    1. Hi Heather,

      I did didn't I? It's because I'm little that way.

It would be terrific to have you along on some of my adventures. We could have such fun!

    1. Hi Kikka,

You're very kind to say such nice things! The only way your statement would be accurate is the 'highness' part because I really did feel quite high off the ground - almost like a ride at the amusement park!

    1. Hi Miss Sharon,

You are always good for my self esteem! :D

It's nice to meet someone like her who looks like royalty but has the kindness of a 'commoner'. :)

  6. Hey Sebastian,

Wow, I mean WOWEE. You lucky bear. But I suppose we should, as bears, look at it from our point of view. Really Arlie was the lucky one, meeting such a bear as YOU. Good heavens, she'll talk about the day she met you for the rest of her life.

As for the handbag and licence thingy. Well, first you are right - it is your travelling home after all - it's not her handbag at all. I can symphonise about the photograph, I mean you should SEE his passport - grim, grim grim - is all I can say. Enough to curdle milk I've heard some people say, but he's nice enough when he doesn't forget me. I'm sure the same can be said about Her.

    Hugs,

    Jock

    1. Hi Jock,

Ah, so nice to hear from someone who gets me. It is a nice thought that maybe it will be a day she remembers. I like that idea. I like your perspective - absolutely!

You make me laugh so hard I nearly split a seam. I love the "grim, grim, grim" bit. And the next time I see something that is rather frightening or even off-putting, I am going to use your brilliant phrase "enough to curdle milk". How did you get so smart?!

      hugs to you my friend,

    2. Hi Sebastian,

I spect it's my Celtic genes. Something to do with sour faced wee nyaff. It's not something you'd say of somebody lightly, but he did leave me tohind and I haven't forgiven him yet.

Hugs to you may friend too. We bears and wee bears have to stick together.

    3. Hi Jock,

I think something might be lost in the translation but I'll be very careful, very selective about using it. I'll refrain if it looks like honey or sweets or chocolate is about to be served.

Yes, we definitely should stick together. If we get left behind too many more times we could arrange to meet ourselves - we might have to bring Ann into the picture if we have trouble getting to and from though.

      :D

You're much to close to the situation. Perhaps we could trade because let me tell you, you've got it good there with LT and her friend. Aren't the both of them very fun to be with and cute too? Sounds like a great time to me!
