Snow Covered Bear and Others

Now that Sebastian has shared his fun in the snow, I thought I would share a few photos I took today after the snow accumulated overnight. But first, remember this little bear from a previous post?

Here’s what he looked like today.

This is a lot of snow for us.  Poor trees!

Another view.

Even the chains on the swing set.

Finally, our Japanese Maple.

Stay warm and cozy if you’re on this side of winter.

Who Needs Pants? by Sebastian

Hi ho! Sebastian here to share with you my recent adventures.  As  you know I have quite a selection of fashionable attire but as a bear in the snow, who needs pants?  Not me.

It snowed here – really snowed and that’s kind of rare for us. We don’t usually get more than a dusting or an inch or two. This time we got a little more than 6 inches. I might even go out and build a snowbear once my paws unfreeze from my initial trip out into the vast expanse.

Anyway, I wanted to share with you my first video. And later, my staff is going to share some of the snow photos she took. That is if I can get her to put down her needle and thread and pick up the mouse.  In the meantime, the post just below this one has the video that Mister Jay used his IT magic on.  Check it out.

love & hugs,

Are you confused yet?

A couple of photos from the last few days. My question is: do we pursue activities and incorporate things into our projects that we enjoy so we have a legitimate reason for working with them or do the ideas that we come up with contain things we coincidently enjoy? Or do we take pleasure in the activities, and the objects those activities require as a result, because we just enjoy creating? Or – one last question – is it different at different times? I think the answer to the above questions could possibly be ‘yes’.  What do you think?

Happy Monday!

Flakey in so Many Ways

I wanted to use this snowflake to make a drawer pull for an idea I had wandering around in my head but after a couple of attempts I began to wonder if it was a wise pursuit.

Then I enlisted my husband as advisor and assistant. It seems like no matter what cockamamie problem I present he always treats them with the utmost seriousness. As if I’m not flakey at all. And I do appreciate that.

In the end, with his bit of advice, I was able to get my snowflake drawer pull sorted out to my satisfaction.

Late in the afternoon here we had a brief snow flurry that came down fast and furious and then quit but it lasted long enough for me to take a few snapshots.

It covered most everything in just a few minutes.  The trees,

the chairs,

and the bear.

Beautiful to look at but it will be gone pretty quickly.

Inside & Outside, Before & After – Briefly

Just a few of photos of contrasting views. Two befores - which I’ve posted here before so I guess that makes them two befores2, two afters, two inside, three outside. What? Three?  That seems like about a gazillon pictures but it’s only five (5).

First up, this before photo that I’ve posted before so you can see the after right after.

Here’s the after.  I LOVE this finish.  It makes me want to rust everything. The variation of the colors and the texture and above all, the transformation.

Here’s another before which I posted yesterday which was before the winter storm.

Here’s the after the storm photo.  Just a slight glaze of ice which didn’t seem to affect this little bear’s enjoyment of honey or maybe he’s just frozen.

Number 3 – It’s Topher! He rather liked the coating on the ground even though it was cold and made him shiver.  Crazy dog!  I love him.

That’s all for now.  Thanks for reading!

Until later,

This evening, here on bearbits,

I offer the current weather conditions in this part of North Carolina. We are in the midst of a winter storm. Br-r-r-r. It’s cold. How’s that for official? Looking out from our windows, it doesn’t have the dramatic appearance of a huge snowfall. Instead we are getting sleet and freezing rain. It may peter out or it could be that ice will accumulate which could take us down a different path entirely. This is a photo I took this afternoon before the storm arrived. Tomorrow it may look different.

What does one do when the governor urges people to stay off the roads while the power is still on? We decided to make (and eat!) chocolate pastries.

Thanks to my daughter’s recommendation a few weeks ago, we had a treat this wintry evening.

And while our electricity is still on (& we hope it stays that way!), I decided to continue keeping my hands busy with beads and wire.

I’m also including this photo of an artistic stacking of orange slices because I’m fairly certain the friend who did it will fall over in a fit of laughter because I posted it here. And everyone can use a good laugh now and then.

If there are any good storm photos to be had tomorrow, I will check back in. As of now, here’s what we’re seeing. It looks quiet but we can hear the sleet hitting the frozen surfaces. As I said earlier, br-r-r-r.

Until later,

Atmosphere – 2 Saturday Nights

We had dinner at two very different places the last two Saturday nights. The first Saturday night we went to a new place for us called Corbett’s Burgers & Soda Bar. Their claim to fame is that they have over 250 different bottled sodas. I think photos will do the place more justice than lots of description but I will tell you that we’ll be returning and maybe sooner rather than later.

The following Saturday night we returned to one of our favorite restaurants, Guglhupf which has quite a different atmosphere from Corbett’s. While Corbett’s evokes fond memories of the past and familiar, casual and often Southern food, Guglhupf is an artisan bakery patisserie & café “with a bit of a German twist”. I’ve mentioned it here on bearbits before but not in contrast to another place.

How cute are these bottle cap bar stools?!

A view of the tables below at Guglehuph – sweetly elegant.

The drink coolers at Corbett’s – making a selection took me ages!

Guglhuph has very cool lights.

This is just one rack of many to pick from at the Burger & Soda Bar.

This place we choose for special occasions – OR when we haven’t been in ages!

Dessert at Corbett’s – a trip down memory lane – and a happy trip too.

Dessert at Guglhuph – We made quick work of  this one called Banana Rum Mousse Bar.

Thanks for reading!

Until next time -

Drying Time

Hello everyone! Happy Monday to you. While my blog has been idle for longer than usual – a state that Sebastian has been reminding me about quite frequently, I myself have not been idle. In fact, things are hopping here and there in studio related things.

I have several teddies in different stages of completion and my goal is to get them all to one stage: the finished one. Some of these bears are just ever so slightly variations of bears that I have made before.

I am working on a piece for the Philadelphia show also. It seems I have to keep mentally reassuring myself that even though it looks like a huge mess right now – if I stick with it perhaps it will turn out okay in the end.

At the moment, two sections are drying/curing and before I turn in for the night, I expect to have a third doing the same. They are different parts of the same piece. One piece requires a medium to dry. One is waiting on some adhesive to set up. And another is going to be curing as part of several layers of solution. Patience. That’s what I keep repeating. I am crossing my fingers and toes that what I see in my head will eventually manifest itself in a sort of Piece Parade type of reality.

We’ve also been explorers in our own little corner of the world here in what is called “The Triangle” of North Carolina. There is so much to see and so many new places and of course, some familiar ones we have to revisit from time to time. I’ll be sharing a couple of spots we’ve been to recently in my next blog post.

Until then, Sebastian says Hello and not to forget about him because he has some big plans coming up and he wants to make sure he still has some friends out there to share them with when it’s his turn to write here on bearbits.

Oh, and we’ve been doing laundry. Isn’t that exciting?
